Carey Mulligan Named New Ambassador for Alzheimer's Society
In honor of Dementia Awareness Week, the adorable Carey Mulligan has taken on a new role as an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society to help promote awareness of the condition.
The 26-year-old British actress recently revealed that her grandmother was diagnosed with the condition more than eight years ago and said that witnessing her “Nans” confusion and distress was painful for her entire family.
The blonde beauty added, “I am committed to helping Alzheimer's Society in any way I can. My family and I rely on the help of organizations like Alzheimer's Society to help us understand the disease and guide us in the care of my grandmother. It's been a privilege to meet so many people with dementia.”
Although her grandmother has lost the ability to communicate or recognize family, the “Drive” star says that she still finds delight in music. She added that the support provided at her Nan's care home in south Wales displays how people suffering from dementia can live well.
Miss Mulligan added, “It's based on time, and remembering that those with dementia are still people and they still have stories and they still have character and they're all individuals and they're all unique. And they just need to be interacted with on a human level."
