It was quite the shindig at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last night (May 7) as bevies of beautiful babes showed up for the 2012 Costume Institute Gala “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.”

Malin Akerman showed up at the swanky affair sporting a super sexy black gown as she made nice for the paparazzi.

Meanwhile, Liv Tyler also opted for a black ensemble, though Ginnifer Goodwin decided to go bright with an orange frock.

Additionally, Abbie Cornish added some color to her black dress with a violet top, and Mia Wasikowska looked ravishing in red and black as she made her arrival.

As for the celebratory occasion, this year's rendition of the Met gala ushers in the 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations' exhibition exploring "the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras."

The display is described as being "inspired by Miguel Covarrubias's "Impossible Interviews" for Vanity Fair in the 1930s while featuring "orchestrated conversations between these iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work."
